Repurposed Garments

This piece was made entirely out of garments that were destined for landfills, most likely in a developing nation, where the quantity of fast fashion rejects are so great that people are having to bury or burn the no longer desired items. The environmental impact fast fashion is having on people & the planet is not sustainable. We as consumers need to consider more carefully what items we choose to buy, as well as try to repurpose or recycle the items we no longer find a use for.

The intensity of the reds and oranges speaks to the lure that we as consumers feel towards fast fashion, yet at the same time, reveals its devastating nature.

Who’s really behind the top brands who use “femvertising” to maximize their profits? Femvertising is defined as “the use of feminism in advertising.” This seems like a great thing hearing slogans like #Fempowerment & #StrongWomen, however, are the companies who profit from using these slogans, really contributing and meaningful change to the feminist movement?

This piece was made out of repurposed fast fashion items, destined for the landfill. Fast fashion brands are infamous for branding themselves as feminist allies, yet they also exploit their female & male workers and do incredible damage to the planet.

This is an interactive piece, where if you flip up the gold flaps on the dress, you’ll see photos of senior management from the top 10 brands who maximize most profits from the use of these feminist advertising campaigns.
